Celebrity Rap Superstar: Sorry I Missed It
Category: Random Thoughts | No Comments »

perez-1.jpgMy apologies to Audrey but I’ve been a little busy with my real job of being a lawyer. So, this MTV show’s original airing has come and gone, but I bet it will be on probably 30 or 40 more times.

Here’s Audrey’s latest attempt to unhike my pants, which like a typical old guy are up around my nipples.

Oh, would someone tell me who or what Funky Cold Medina is? I think I had that once at a Greek restaurant.

I’m sure you’ve seen many, many ads on websites about Perez Hilton and Tone Loc on MTV’s new show Celebrity Rap Superstar, which airs tonight at 10pm.

The show follows rap stars such as MC Lyte, Tone Loc, and Warren G as they mentor some pseudo celebrities such as Perez, Shar Jackson (K Fed’s first baby mama), Napoleon Dynamite’s Efren Ramirez and Kendra Wilkinson, one of Hef’s girlfriends.perez-2.jpg

Here’s a clip of Perez and Tone Loc in the studio. Watch out for Perez’s response when Tone tells him he can get a lot of girls through rapping: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2vc62_celebrity-rap-superstar-perez-hilto_music

For more info, check out CelebrityRapSuperstar.MTV.com.

P.S. – We’re playing Funky Cold Medina right now in our office!

Thanks,

Audrey

Letterman: President Bubba Chats with Dave September 4th
Category: General | No Comments »

clinton.jpgThe Clinton I wish was running for President meets with my favorite TV talker Monday, September 4th.

Yes, President Bill Clinton meets Dave.

I believe wife Hillary and her pantsuit will chat up Dave Thursday (August 30th).

My buddy Jennifer from CBS has the details:

PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON TO VISIT THE

“LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN,” TUESDAY, SEPT.

ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK

Marks His Fourth Appearance on the CBS Late Night Broadcast

Former President Bill Clinton will visit the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Tuesday, Sept. 4 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This marks President Clinton’s fourth appearance on the LATE SHOW. His previous visits were June 16, 2005, Aug. 3, 2004, and Sept. 11, 2002 (the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks).

He is promoting his new book on citizen activism and public service, Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World, which will be also be released on Sept. 4, the day of his LATE SHOW appearance. A portion of the proceeds from this book will be donated to various charities and nonprofit organizations. President Clinton’s last book, My Life, was released in 2004 and is one of the best-selling memoirs of all time. To coincide with the release of Giving, President Clinton has launched a new website, www.clintonfoundation.org/giving, where readers have the opportunity to share their stories of giving and learn more about opportunities to give.

President Clinton’s visit comes only a few days after his wife, 2008 Democratic Presidential Candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, makes her seventh appearance on the LATE SHOW, Thursday, Aug. 30.

The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Barbara Gaines, Maria Pope, Jude Brennan and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.

Drinking Your Way Through CSI: Miami
Category: Random Thoughts | 1 Comment »

csi-miami.jpgMy 17 year old daughter asked a poignant question tonight.

“Dad, why do you and mom like to watch CSI: Miami so much?”

“Sarah, because we like to mock it,” I answered.

That, and drink to it, I will add out of her ear shot.

The LAist already has developed a very fine Horatio Caine (David Caruso) based drinking game. However, it is a little complicated for my TV viewing, mocking, and beer drinking abilities.

So Mrs. TVBloggin and I have developed an abridged drinking game (which can also be played with non-alcoholic beverages, but what would be the point?). Like The LAist’s game, it is primarily based on David Caruso’s quirky acting style.

The Simplified TVBloggin CSI: Miami Drinking Game Rules:

  1. Horatio takes off his sunglasses, take a drink.
  2. Horatio puts on his sunglasses, take a drink.
  3. Horatio walks out of a scene, take a drink.
  4. Horatio says “Eric,” take a drink.
  5. Horatio actually looks someone in the eyes when he talks to them, take a drink.
  6. Extra points: If Calleigh Duquense (Emily Procter) actually blinks in a scene, take a drink.
  7. Extra, extra points: If Horatio ever wears a ball cap, down a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer immediately.

Even with the modified rules, it is easy to down a six pack in the course of an hour.

Above: In CSI: Miami, you will never, ever, ever, ever see David Caruso wearing a gimme ball cap like this. But under the abridged CSI: Miami drinking game rules, if he does, you’ll be at the urinal for a week. Man Caves: Interview with Host Jason Cameron
Category: Interviews | 1 Comment »

jason2.jpgLast week, thanks to Amie, I had the opportunity to interview Jason Cameron, host of the DIY series Desperate Landscapes and Man Caves.

Jason is a carpenter turned actor turned carpenter/host for the two shows. He’s 39, married, a personal trainer, and a former college athlete.

In my interview, I found him to be engaging, friendly, and funny.

I chose to talk to him primarily about Man Caves, as having one is my guy fantasy.

TVBloggin: I am the most unhandy man in America. My wife is the handy one in our household. It’s funny, but hammers just don’t fit my hand.

Jason Cameron: I can find a hammer that will fit your hand. (laughs) You learn by doing to get over the hump. Once you actually start on a project, it’s not really that difficult.

I look at it like cooking. If you can read a cook book or how to make something, you can do the same thing with home improvement. When I’m doing the show—some of these guys have no skills—by the end, they are building a wall.

TVBloggin: Ok, what’s a “man cave?

JC: It’s different for everyone. It’s just a space they can relax. It is their space. They don’t have to worry about hanging things up or cleaning things up. We focus on what they guy wants. Usually, the house “belongs to the woman.

I’m all about earthy tones, rocks. I use a lot of rocks and steel. If they’re a sports enthusiast, we work with that.

TVBloggin: So, how do I convince my wife to let me have a man cave?

JC: Tell her you’ll agree with her on everything else about the house if you can have your way with the man cave.

It’s nice to have that one space that’s all about us and they have no input. If they’re willing to give us that one space, there you go.

TVBloggin: Do you have a man cave?

JC: I’m building a man cave for everyone else I don’t have one myself. (laughs) I live in a 1000 square foot condo in Hoboken, NJ.

To buy a house in Hoboken, we’re talking millions.

TVBloggin: What’s the typical budget for one of your Man Cave projects?

JC: We have a $1,500 budget. Getting labor for free on the show and products donated for product placement helps a lot though. We did a cigar lounge and built a display style humidor. That adds up very fast.

TVBloggin: Have you ever been compared to This Old House’s Bob Vila?

JC: I haven’t been compared to Bob Vila. (laughs) I used to watch him all the time. I watched Norm Abrams and admire him.

TVBloggin: What’s the reaction been to Man Caves?

siragusa.jpgGuys seem to like it. Tony Siragusa (co-host), the Goose, he has all the fun, I do all the hard work. (laughs) What better guy than the Goose to hang out with?

TVBloggin: What are the Man Cave rules?

We always say no women allowed but I’m sure that’ll change.

No girly colors. No babies in the room. No flowers.

Life of Ryan: If Only My 17 Year Old Had Ignored My Advice
Category: General, Random Thoughts | No Comments »

ryan.jpgMy gal Audrey has depressed me today. Below, she tells me–and you–all about a 17 year old skateboard prodigy who’s actually putting food on the table for his family.

When my now 17 year old daughter was 13, she informed me that she wanted to be a “boarder.” I thought being a soccer player or a basketball player was a better plan.

Silly me. You live and learn as a parent. Maybe there’s hope for my 12 year old son.

Anyway, here’s the skinny about MTV’s Life of Ryan, from my pal Audrey.

It’s a really busy week for MTV – gearing up for the VMAs, season finale of Making the Band, Rodrigo y Gabriela promotion, aaaaaaaaand one I’m really excited about the season premiere of Life of Ryan on Monday, Aug 27th at 10:30pm.

Life of Ryan follows around the 17 year old skateboarding phenom Ryan Sheckler - the youngest person to ever turn professional in the world of skateboarding. So his life is unlike any typical teenager, while you think being a pro skater would be the totally rad, sometimes Ryan just wants to be that typical teenager.

You’ll watch Ryan as he travels around world showing off his skills, while his omnipresent mother, who is also his manager, is always right by his side. And to add on top of that, Ryan struggles with his parents’ recent divorce and attempts to be a role model for his younger brothers, Shane and Kane.

If you haven’t caught the promo spots on MTV, here is a preview for you:

“Ryan Sheckler is Just a Normal Kid”: http://www.ifilm.com/profile/wiredset/video/2889378

Premiere Clip: http://www.ifilm.com/profile/wiredset/video/2887874

Of course it would be most appreciated if you would be able to share the info on the premiere and clips with your readers. We have the mini moon men, and various MTV shirts and DVD to give to our undying supporters.

Enjoy the Weekend and remember Life of Ryan on Monday!

Above: Nice hat, Ryan. Ryan Sheckler arrives at the Rolling Stone Live XEdition held at the Avalon on August 5, 2007 in Hollywood, California. Rolling Stone Live XEdition Hosted by Tony Hawk, Jason Ellis and Sal Masekela with Live Performance by Eagles of Death Metal.

Anchorwoman: There Is a God! Anchorwoman Cancelled After One Episode
Category: Random Thoughts | No Comments »

jones.jpgMaybe there is a God. Fox cancelled the awful in concept and apparently awful in execution “reality” show, Anchorwoman.

Today’s Hollywood Reporter has the story.

An excerpt:

Fox has yanked “Anchorwoman” off the air less than 24 hours after the reality/comedy hybrid’s putrid debut Wednesday.

“Anchorwoman,” chronicling swimsuit model Lauren Jones’ attempt to become a TV journalist in Tyler, Texas, came in a distant fourth with two back-to-back episodes in the 8 p.m. hour. It averaged 2.7 million viewers and a 1.0 rating/3 share in the adults 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

As a former local TV news executive producer, I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. There is already a high bimbo factor of good looking men and women who have no clue about government, business, medicine and life trying to report and anchor the news. Simply hiring a woman with large breasts and absolutely no journalism training would seem to be the next logical step in that devolution.

However, perhaps the line has solidified in TV news. Vacuous bimbos ok on TV news ok; large breasted vacuous bimbos in bikinis not ok.

Thank God–and Nielsen.

Above: Lauren Jones, who was the “anchorwoman” in Fox’s Anchorwoman, visits Fuse’s “The Sauce” AT Fuse Studios New York - August 21, 2007.  Maybe we’ll never have to see her ever again.

The Price Is Right: Drew Carey Era Begins October 15th
Category: General | 1 Comment »

carey.jpgJennifer at CBS has the latest on funnyman Drew Carey taking the reigns from Bob Barker on The Price Is Right.

CBS’S EMMY AWARD-WINNING “THE PRICE IS RIGHT,” WITH NEW HOST DREW CAREY, TO HAVE 36TH SEASON PREMIERE ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 15 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK.

CBS’s Emmy-Award winning “THE PRICE IS RIGHT,” with new host Drew Carey, will have its 36th season premiere on Monday, October 15 (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT), on the CBS Television Network.  Carey was recently named host of television’s long-running game show, succeeding former host Bob Barker, who retired in June after 35 years on the show.

The new season will start out with some exciting wins, as several contestants make some lucky spins on the big Wheel.  Others have the chance to win some of the most expensive cars ever given away on the show, as well as trips to exotic locations and more amazing prizes. In addition, the familiar set has been refreshed to give it an updated look while keeping the recognizable PRICE IS RIGHT theme and appearance.

Carey, a stand-up comic turned actor and producer who is best known for having two hit shows simultaneously — “The Drew Carey Show” and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” — is also the host of the Network’s “Power Of 10,” a high-stakes, primetime game show where contestants compete for the chance to win $10 million.  He was also a producer and host of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” which continues to air in syndication.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT, which won the 2007 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show, is now in its 36th season and is television’s longest-running game show.  It is a FremantleMedia North America production.  The series is broadcast weekdays (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Ugly Betty: Need More MIKA!
Category: General | 1 Comment »

14644270451press8242007120914am-mike.jpgMere weeks ago, I thought MIKA was a former Soviet KGB commissar.

But thanks to my TVBFF Audrey, I learned he is some sort of pop superstar.

Now, my buddy tells me that MIKA is on the sleeper hit of the last TV season, ABC’s Ugly Betty.

The things you learn as a TV reviewer!

Of course, with summer ending comes new seasons of your favorite shows (bleh to repeats…only if you missed an episode throughout the season…) and one in particular that is featuring British pop star Mika; Ugly Betty!

With the success of “Big Girl,” Mika got a little crafty on this one and changed the words to “Big Girl You Are Beautiful” to “Hey Betty, You Are Beautiful”. It fits in perfectly and I’ve even got a cool little promo so you can hear the track and see the recording footage.

Here it is:

Category: Random Thoughts | No Comments »

bold-1.jpgBack in The Day, soap operas had lots of handsome people who apparently lived off of investment income (you never same them working and drank profusely all through the day (yet were never drunk) talking about who they were going to screw, figuratively and literally (no sex please, we’re on in the mid-morning).

Survivor: China Here We Come!
Category: Random Thoughts | 1 Comment »

image0011.jpgI do not like Survivor.

I did watch part of the first season and did enjoy it where the one lady said she’d leave another person dead on the side of the road.

I thought that was its peak.

But after that, it’s just been a succession of selfish people trying to screw each other.

But Mr. TVBloggin knows that many of you love the series. Here’s the latest skinny from my gal Jennifer at the Eye Nework.  But first, a video you can link to and play about all the news: http://cbsmediagroupftp.com/clips06/survivor_china_epk_Stream.wmv

15th Installment of the Hit Television Series Premieres on Thursday, Sept. 20

CBS today announced the 16 new castaways who will compete in SURVIVOR: CHINA when the 15th installment of the Emmy Award-winning series premieres Thursday, Sept. 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

SURVIVOR: CHINA will feature a cast of 16 Americans who will begin the series amid the bustle of downtown Shanghai before moving to HuangPu Mountain Mi Tuo Temple for a Buddhist ceremony where they will be instructed to leave all of their worldly possessions behind. The castaways will then be marooned with the clothes on their back at two separate islands on Zhelin Lake (translation: the Land of 1,000 Lakes) located in the Jiangxi Province. They will split into two tribes, Fei Long (translation: Flying Dragon) and Zhan Hu (translation: Fighting Tiger), and will each be given a copy of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War for tribe motivation and assistance throughout the game.

SURVIVOR: CHINA will once again afford each tribe the opportunity to obtain a Hidden Immunity Idol which may save someone from elimination at a future Tribal Council. This time, two Hidden Immunity Idols will be in plain sight (one at each camp), although the castaways will not realize this at the start of the game. Each week, the winning tribe of the Reward Challenge will be allowed to kidnap someone from the losing tribe.

The person who is kidnapped will receive a note from host Jeff Probst before departing for the enemy camp and will be instructed to give it to one member of the enemy tribe (the kidnapped victim will decide who receives it) in private. The clue will inform this person of the Hidden Immunity Idol located somewhere at their camp. This person must then decide if they wish to share the information with their tribe or keep it to themselves. The kidnapped victim will return to their original tribe at the following Immunity Challenge. For more detailed information on SURVIVOR: CHINA and the 16 new castaways, log on to www.cbs.com/survivor.

Deadwood: Some Good News Skinny from the Real Deadwood
Category: General | No Comments »

ep36_01_hearstalmaothers.jpgI don’t typically reprint comments here but I’m making an exception.

The commenter, Denise Ross, is a former reporter and editor for the Rapid City Journal and now a documentary film-maker, freelance journalist, and blogger. She’s also a huge fan of HBO’s Deadwood, of which the real Deadwood is just an hour or so from her home in Rapid City. She’s also a very fine journalist.

Here’s her report on the latest skinny from my previous post on Deadwood:

URL : http://www.hoghouseblog.com
Comment:
Todd - Just got back from a visit to (the real) Deadwood with the folks who told me that HBO had been snooping around LONG before all the buzz started about the TV show.

Anyway, here’s their take. First, HBO still is paying rent for Deadwood’s set and costumes.

I’ll assume we all know the personnel nastiness that’s somewhat hobbled HBO internally and simply say that Milch is maneuvering within a bit of a cloak and dagger environment and might not be able to overtly say just what he’s angling for.

Ergo, a 4th season might not be so silly after all. He’s got another year on his HBO contract, and so far all he’s floated is a cop show suspiciously similar to NYPD Blue - to not much enthusiasm, I gather.

The actors wouldn’t be a problem, I’m told.

Finally, there’s the issue of foreign distribution rights - held by Paramount, who “owns” Milch. (You’re the lawyer, Todd.
