Project Runway Slinks Down the Catwalk Again Tonight
Category: Reviews | 1 Comment »

Bravo’s Project Runway is back on the catwalk tonight.

It is my guilty pleasure.

I feel like a girl when I watch it. (Which is strange since I’m a guy.) But even though some of the contestants are just plain weird and others a little light in the loafers, they compete like NFL linebackers during the playoffs. MEOW! And that is why I watch. I like to see people who are good at what they do compete hard.

And while I think some of the designers are just plain nuts, most of them are highly accomplished and artistic people. With sharp elbows.

And I can’t pick the winners to save my life. I thought the person who won one of the early challenges this season (and the strangest designer there) had simply awful stuff. Some sort of plaid crap that WKRP’s Herb Tarlik wouldn’t even touch. I wouldn’t let me dogs wear it for Halloween. But my secret crushes Heidi and Nina drooled all over it and him. (Can you say Todd’s the meat in a Project Runway sandwich? I can.)

But I digress.

Someday I might understand high fashion. But I think that day is far in the future. However, I do think Tim Gunn dresses impeccably for a guy.

Anyway, the show is on again tonight and My Gal Audrey wants you to watch it. And I always do what Audrey says. I’m just glad I have some understanding of what I’m watching in this case.

Go Audrey!

Hope you are doing well!

Season 4 of Project Runway is already turning out to be awesome! Last week the contestants were faced with creating an outfit for Sarah Jessica Parker’s BITTEN line with only $14 to spend on fabric! The winner was Victorya…and she definitely turned it out for the challenge.

The Excitement That Is My Damn Channel Continues

I don’t get the whole My Damn Channel thing. I guess it’s videos on the Internet or some such thing.Oh well.

But, as you know, My Gal Audrey who supplies me with this information does me tons of favors, so I do what I can to repay her hospitality. So, help Audrey out and watch New Wainy Days on My Damn Channel–whatever it is.

Here’s my gal:

We are in episode 2 of season 2 and David is still feeling a little down about his whole love life. Well, what’s a better way to get happy than a happy ending thats what David is going to try at least.

http://www.mydamnchannel.com/channel.aspx?episode=286

See if David gets his happy ending oh, and there is a priceless moment involving a ring. I will leave it at that.

Thanks, hope you can share this with your readers!

Audrey

Above: An example from My Damn Channel. I think we all want the writers’ strike to be over. Soon. Warning not only bad language but stupid language is used. I guess it beats Dancing With the Stars. Actually, no. And DWTS sucks so badly that it creates black holes in the universe.

Meet the Former Mrs. Horatio Caine
Category: Celebrity News | 1 Comment »

Walk into the room.  Pause for dramatic effect.  Take off your sunglasses.  Tilt your head at an uncomfortable angle.

Then make a big announcement:

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the former Mrs. Horatio Caine will join the nearly clear David Caruso on CBS’s oddly fascinating CSI: Miami.

Meet Horatio’s ex: Elizabeth Berkley is joining CBS’ crime drama
CSI: Miami” as a recurring.

She will play Julia Winston — Horatio Caine’s (David Caruso)
former wife and the mother of his recently discovered teenage son,
Kyle (Evan Ellingson) — who becomes part of an investigation when
her billionaire husband is murdered.

No word on whether Ms Berkley will strip and work the poll ala Showgirls.

Mediaweek: NBC Tanks Top Demos in November Sweeps
Category: General | 1 Comment »

Looks like the Peacock Network won’t be unfurling its tail feathers over the November book.

A blurb from Mediaweek:

November Sweeps Bring More Bad News for NBC
The November sweeps, once a chance for the broadcast networks to bolster ratings before heading into December repeats, have become a major disappointment, with adults 18-49 delivery down between 13-21 percent and total viewers off between 800,000 and 2.4 million a night, reports John Consoli. “The 18-49 declines are awful, but particularly for NBC, which is digging itself a particularly big hole going forward, said Lyle Schwartz, executive vp, director of broadcast research for GroupM. Through the first 19 days of sweeps, NBC averaged 8.3 million viewers per night, down from 10.7 million last November. NBC’s 18-49 rating is down to a 3.2, off 18 percent from last year.

Sarah Jessica Parker Gravy Trains Off Project Runway Contestant
Category: Celebrity News | 1 Comment »

Beaten With An Ugly Stick Sarah Jessica Parker can’t come up with her own designs for her BITTEN line of clothes so she has to go to Bravo’s Project Runway for ideas.

Here’s a portion of the release telling all about TV’s most overrated “star” helping the little people. I don’t understand how Hollywood has been able to foist this woman upon us as a beauty and an acting talent.

Try not to gag when you read the release.

Winning Design from Bravo’s Project Runway is
Selected by Guest Judge Sarah Jessica Parker as a New Addition to Her
BITTEN Collection at Steve & Barry’s

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ — The winning dress designed by a contestant during this week’s episode of Bravo’s “Project Runway,” which featured Sarah Jessica Parker as a guest judge, is available to shoppers nationwide beginning today as part of Parker’s BITTEN(TM) collection. BITTEN, the women’s casual sportswear line
launched by Parker and retailer Steve & Barry’s(R) earlier this year, is exclusively available at Steve & Barry’s stores
nationwide.

Parker announced at the end of the show that contestant Victorya Hong was named the winner of the episode, which aired Wednesday, November 21st. The challenge was for the designers to present their design concepts to Parker, who then selected seven of them to partner with another contestant and create a casual sportswear piece appropriate for BITTEN. On the runway, the actress and fashion icon then surprised Hong by telling her that her trapeze dress with a plaid shrunken vest would serve as inspiration for an actual addition to BITTEN’s Holiday collection — the result of an agreement between Steve & Barry’s and “Project Runway.” A stretch-cotton dress ($19.98) similar to Hong’s design is available at Steve & Barry’s stores across the country beginning November 23rd in both black and burgundy,
as is a separate plaid vest ($14.98) in grey/black.

Hong’s actual winning design will be prominently displayed in Steve & Barry’s flagship New York City store at the Manhattan Mall for several weeks. In-store signage at all Steve & Barry’s shopping mall locations will also help promote the Emmy-nominated competition reality series and explain the genesis of the newest BITTEN dress, one
of more than 500 pieces in the successful line’s Fall/Holiday collection.

While taking a break from cooking Thanksgiving dinner, Mrs./Dr. TVBloggin watched CBS’s The Price Is Right for a while with new host Drew Carey.

Here’s her succinct and tough review.

“The show is bad. Carey is bad. I liked him in Whose Line Is It Anyway and the Drew Carey Show. But he doesn’t get a chance to be funny on this show.”

Ouch. Tough room.

This Thanksgiving, Don’t Be a Tool, Watch DIY’s Cool Tools!
Category: General | No Comments »

I’m not much of a tool guy.

As I tell Mrs./Dr. TVBloggin, tools just don’t fit my hand.

I also tell her that while I’m not handy I am handsome.

But I know many of you like tools even if you don’t ever do any home improvement.

Tomorrow night on the DIY Network, my buddy Orli has more about Cool Tools, a show sure to make your inner gizmo geek go nuts.

Hi Todd,

Hope you’re doing well since we last spoke. I thought you’d be interested to hear about a new program on DIY Network called “Cool Tools,” premiering tomorrow at 8 — perfect timing to veg out on the couch after Thanksgiving dinner. The show is hosted by comedian Chris Grundy, who gives viewers an inside look at the coolest - and craziest - tools on the market today. He even goes behind-the-scenes, taking viewers on fun field trips - tomorrow’s show goes to a chainsaw museum (!!!)

Cool Tools airs Thursdays at 9pm ET, but the premier this Thursday Nov. 22 is a 2-hour special that starts at 8.
Here are some embeddable sneak preview clips of the show:

If you or your readers don’t get DIY Network at home, there’s lots of online content available too, including video highlights, product specs, purchase details and — perfect for the holiday season — a Cool Tools gift guide. Check it out here: http://www.diynetwork.com/cooltools

As always, let me know if you have any questions about the show, videos or online content.

Let’s Be Frank: FrankTV Is BadTV
Category: General | No Comments »

As I think I’ve noted before, I am a huge Frank Caliendo fan.

He is a gifted comic and impressionist. His John Madden, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Charles Barkley impressions, among others, are fabulous.

But I’m here to tell you that I just finished watching the premier of his new TBS show, FrankTV, and it was terrible.

Or as Frank as Charles Barkley would say, “turr-abul.”

  • The pacing was something out of a 1950s variety show. Ponderous doesn’t begin to capture it. It was like they had 15 minutes of material to fill a 30 minute show. I got the feeling through the whole show Frank was trying to stretch the material out. He did–and it broke.
  • The writing was lame. Long skits with few jokes.
  • A set that looks like a castoff from SNL’s Todd and Lisa Lubner sketches from the 1970s.

As Frank would say while imitating Fox NFL analyst and QB great Terry Bradshaw, “Not funnah. Not funnah.”

When Frank is on the radio, say the syndicated Bob and Tom Show (like his was this morning) or doing his stand up or on the old MADTV, he is highly energized, going from one character or bit to another in rapid fashion–and back again. He hits on all eight cylinders in these situations.

In comparison, FrankTV is like a four cylinder Pinto trying to go up a steep grade in the mountains. The engine is working hard but it just ain’t getting the job done. And, it might throw a rod in the process.

From what I heard on Bob and Tom this morning, Frank had four or five shows in the can before the writer’s strike.

I hope when the strike ends, he tosses those shows, hire some new writers and producers, and completely reformat the show.

Otherwise, I won’t be back and I’m guessing most of the rest of the audience won’t be back either.

It is a shame, as Caliendo is as funny and talented a comedian as there is today. But to be frank, this show was flop sweat personified.

Nickelodeon: “Day of Black Sun”
Category: General | 1 Comment »

I have no idea about these kids shows based on video games. I do know my thirteen-year old son, Mr. TVBloggin, Jr., does enjoy them.

I’d have him do a review on this Nickelodeon show but he’s too busy playing a video game right now.

Nickelodeon’s hit series Avatar: The Last Airbender invades television screens with a new one-hour TV movie “Day of Black Sun” on Friday, Nov. 30 from 8 to 9 p.m. (ET/PT). The epic third season of the series from creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko continues as Aang and his rag-tag crew launch their massive attack on the Fire Nation during the solar eclipse. This special television event features the guest voices of Avatar fan and tennis pro Serena Williams as Ming (Uncle Iroh’s guard) and WWE wrestler Mick Foley as The Boulder. (PRNewsFoto/Nickelodeon)

PBS: Barry Manilow in HDTV!
Category: General | No Comments »

Could you imagine what Barry Manilow’s prominent probiscus would look like in High Def?

Wow.

Oh, and he also writes the songs that makes the young girls cry.

Now, on PBS.

A release.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ — Legendary songwriter and performer Barry Manilow revisits the 70s for his new high-definition television special, Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies, airing onover 250 PBS stations during its December Fundraising Campaign (please see below for a complete list of stations). Inspired by his highly anticipated CD, The Greatest Songs of the Seventies, the television event will not only feature Manilow in concert, but sharing his personal experiences with the audience.

Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies was taped before a live audience on September 12th at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, New York, a return to the city where Manilow was born and raised. Manilow also reunited with director David Mallet, who helmed last year’s Barry Manilow: Music and Passion for which Manilow won an Emmy Award for
“Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.” As a director, Mallet’s work includes specials for Elton John, Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, U2 and Cher (where he won an Emmy for The Farewell Tour).

Manilow’s music is synonymous with the 70s. His songs helped define the era, and Barry Manilow: Songs From The Seventies will revisit some of those songs, as well as some of his own favorites from the decade — many of which are featured on his new CD. Industry charts have ranked Manilow as the undisputed number one adult contemporary artist of all time with record sales exceeding 70 million worldwide. He has written hundreds of songs and performed around the globe, thrilling millions of fans and winning a Grammy, two Emmys, several Tony Awards, and an Oscar nomination.

In 2006, Manilow celebrated one of the most successful years of his career. The Greatest Songs of the Fifties entered the Billboard charts at #1; the PBS special, Barry Manilow: Music and Passion, earned him an Emmy; and The Greatest Songs of the Sixties hit the charts at number two.

Hey VA, Here’s a Thought: Spend Money Helping Veterans, Not Tooting Your Own Horn
Category: Reviews | No Comments »

In many ways, there is no more important federal agency than the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Besides serving the needs of our wounded veterans, it also provides much needed health care to many others who can’t afford health care elsewhere.

And it is fact of life that the VA is always woefully underfunded in the best of times and particularly stressed now with the return of service members from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

Further, many veterans do not qualify for VA services because of their income–they’re not too poor, they make too much or have too much in retirement.

It’s a hell of a way to treat our men and women who served their nation.

To add insult to injury, chickenhawk Republicans like Sen. John Thune support the Iraq Civil War but aren’t so supportive of helping our men and women who have served once they returned.

So, what does the VA and the Bush Administration do to help the situation?

They put on their own TV “reality” show.

Um, how about putting that money into more doctors, better facilities, and letting all veterans have access to health care as a small token of our nation’s thanks?

Here’s the VA’s press release in large part. I hope you don’t puke at the end of it like I did when I read it the first time.

‘The American Veteran’ is Reality TV - VA Style

WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Using the latest in video and broadcast technologies, stirring music, creative graphics and solid writing, “The American Veteran,” a monthly half-hour news magazine from the Department of Veterans Affairs, tells compelling stories of real-life veterans who have taken advantage of the many and varied benefits and services available to them as a result of their military service.

“We are committed to informing veterans and active duty military alike about VA’s many benefits and services and we are very pleased with the quality and reach of ‘The American Veteran,’” said Acting VA Secretary Gordon H. Mansfield. “The feedback and recognition the program has received is a testament to the effort put in by all involved.”

The series is designed to inform active duty members, veterans, their families and their communities about the services and benefits they have earned and to recognize and honor them. VA’s Office of Public Affairs and the VA Learning University/Employee Education System (VALU/EES) produce the program and broadcast it to VA facilities on the department’s own internal network and around the world on The Pentagon Channel and community cable outlets.

Aimed at veterans of all eras, their families and the American Public, VA also tells stories of heroism, sacrifice and relives moments in history with those who lived it reminding veterans of the bond of service they all share.

The VA Office of Public Affairs offers the program to local broadcasters and cable outlets and makes it available for viewing on the VA Web site www.va.gov, just click on “public affairs” and then “featured items.”

“The American Veteran” schedule on The Pentagon Channel is available at http://www.pentagonchannel.mil/ where you can also view the program as it is broadcast. The Pentagon Channel has more than 1 million military viewers and is delivered domestically via DISH, EchoStar, T-Warner and Cox cable systems. (Check for service in your area.)
