“Survivor: Fans v/s Favorites” Starts Out On The Right Foot

I’ll be honest. I was dreading watching this premiere because of Jonny Fairplay. Hearing him speak and seeing him on my television puts me in a very bad mood. I was disappointed they chose him for this season because - in my mind - it ruined what could be a great concept. I actually fast-forwarded through a few confessional scenes with him in it - just so I could avoid hearing him speak.

So - needless to say the tribal council pleased me greatly. It may have disappointed many of you looking for good drama - but I’m happy to now just focus on the show.

Is it just me - or is it surprisingly difficult notto root for the Fans? They are such underdogs and I found myself rejoicing when they won the challenge. I don’t think I realized I’d so whole-heartedly be on their side. But I was! Of course - it helps that there are several on there that have potential to be contestants I really root for. It’s hard to judge the first episode, but I think I’m going to like Erik, Jason, Joel and Mikey B. I haven’t decided about any of the girls but Kathleen yet because she was the one they focused on the most. And boy - I want her gone. Not because I don’t like her as a person or contestant, but she makes me very uncomfortable with constantly putting her foot in her mouth. I agree that it’s too bad she found the immunity idol.

Overall - I was pleased with the episode. I’m looking forward to watching this one play out.

I Actually Have Quite A Bit of Television To Watch Tonight

******************

ghostwhisperer.jpg Ghost Whisperer is all new tonight on CBS. Although, since I just started watching this show this season, even the reruns are new to me. But tonight, it will be new to everyone! I know I’m not the only one mesmerized by Jennifer Love Hewitt’s hair, am I? (My husband would like me to clarify that he is not mesmerized by her hair.) Watch it with me! Description: “Melinda goes to Ned’s new high school to investigate what appears to be a series of hauntings.”

9:00pm
******************

moonlight.jpg My husbands new favorite show and one in a many in a long list of Vampires as Protagonists pop culture creations, Moonlight is new tonight on CBS. I watch it for the actor previously known as Logan Echols on Veronica Mars. I’ve missed a few episodes, but tonight’s looks good. Description: “A vindictive drug lord kidnaps Josh, whose fate lies with Mick and Beth.”

fridaynightlights.jpgMy favorite Friday night show is NBC’s Friday Night Lights and it is all new tonight. I’ll be watching this episode live (as opposed as recorded on TiVo) because I’ve been anticipating tonight’s episode since last week. I want to see Coach Taylor to realize Tim Riggins is a good guy and I want them to hug it out already!. Description: “Brian “Smash” Williams is facing a lot of pressure as many major colleges are looking for a verbal commitment to their program and he has his heart set on one. Elsewhere, tension is still high between Coach Taylor and Tim Riggins, with regard to Julie, and Tim does not know where to turn. Meanwhile, Coach Taylor is feeling the stress as he prepares the Panthers to take on Laribee High School in the biggest game of the season. Back at home, Tami Taylor and her sister continue to see things differently, which eventually leads to the Taylor’s asking her to leave.”

monk.jpg One of my favorite staples is the USA gem Monk and it returns tonight for it’s mid-season premiere. Monk suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which is what makes tonight’s guest star that much more entertaining. Howie Mandel, a self-proclaimed sufferer of OCD stars in an episode that has Adrien Monk investigating a cult.

10:00pm
******************

numb3rs.jpg There are many shows I still can’t explain my fascination with. CBS’ Numb3rs is one of them. Regardless as to why I watch it, it is all new tonight. Description: An investigative journalist goes missing, and Charlie is physically intimidated in an effort to disrupt his work on the case.

lasvegas.jpgTonight is a big milestone for one of my Friday Night staples - NBCs Las Vegas. They are celebrating their 100th episode tonight. Description: “Bounty hunters and FBI agents descend on the Montecito when they track a fugitive from justice to the area; Sam tries to help one of her whales pick up the pieces of his broken life; Piper throws a post-New Year’s party, and cash starts rolling in.”

psych.jpgThe follow-up to Monk is the cute and funny Psych which also returns for it’s midseason run tonight. Gus and Shawn continue solving crimes with their fake psychic detective agency and making me laugh every Friday. Description: “A woman claiming to be Gus’ wife hires Shawn to search for someone. Kerry Washington guest stars.”

What Would You Say On Ellen’s Answering Machine?
Category: General | No Comments »

ellendegeneres1.jpgOkay, so my favorite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has a birthday coming up. She’ll be 50 and her website is offering a phone number where you can leave her a birthday message. I was all over that and ready to call, until I experienced some awful stagefright. What do I say? Should I be funny or sweet or both? How much time will they give me? Can I call back if I don’t like my first message? Would they be scared of me if I begged for her to come eat dinner with my family one night? I’ll promise not to cook!

A look at “Torchwood” Season 2
Category: General | 1 Comment »

One thing about BBC programming, most people either love it all, or hate it all. Although I haven’t seen a lot of the more popular shows from the BBC, the ones I’ve seen I love. My most recent discovery is Torchwood and I looked forward to every Season 1 airing the last few months. As soon as we saw the finale of that season, I began to wonder when the next would start since it is already into Season 3 in the UK. Well, my question has been answered along with a preview for the upcoming Season 2, premiering January 26th.

“Lost” Trailer
Category: General | No Comments »

I finally picked back up with Lost towards the last half of last season. I had given up on it for awhile because I had grown so frustrated. But - following the advice of others assuring me it was getting good again - I started watching about 5 episodes from the end. And of course, I got hooked all over again. Which is why the trailer for the upcoming season has me very happy.

“The Biggest Loser” Final Four is Determined
Category: General | No Comments »

neil.jpgLast night’s episode was tough for me because on one hand: I’m rooting for a few people on the Black Team and still a little bitter with Neil from Week 7. On the other hand: I love Bob. So, I was torn. I honestly couldn’t root against Neil, no matter how much I wanted to, because he was all Bob has left. I just hate to see a Bob-less finale.

Luckily, the decision was made for me. I really didn’t want to see Neil win, no matter ho much I love Bob. And now that he’s gone, I can openly root for any of the three girls left and honestly not be upset if any of them win. I don’t want Bill to win, because I’m really pulling for a girl.

And seriously? Was it just me or did last night’s episode seem way more emotional than the past seasons? Maybe it was the Underdog thing - but I was bawling my eyes out the entire time.

Maybe I shouldn’t admit that kind of thing?

Barney Teaches Us All Again
Category: General | 1 Comment »

himym_platrule.jpg I read awhile back that How I Met Your Mother does not film in front of a studio audience, because no audience would even smile at the scenes filmed separately in this typically non-linear show. HIMYM (pronounced “Him-Yim” to die-hard fans like myself) seems to have trademarked the sideswipe which leaves one scene and enters another, usually at a time in the past. Last nights episode, “The Platinum Rule” used these sideswipes in a way that makes us fans say, “That’s what I’m talking about.”

“The Platinum Rule” spent the majority of the episode in an half-hour long segment (that’s how long it takes Ted to fix his hair) with Barney lecturing Ted on why he should not date his doctor. (Who would be removing his Tramp Stamp. WHY ARE YOU NOT WATCHING THIS SHOW?) He was using examples of the past from himself: Dating the Bartender, Marshall and Lily: Befriending the neighbors, and Robin: Dating the Sports Guy on her news program. There were swipes to several eras in the past, brilliantly edited together as they each made the same mistake in different times. It was a brilliant episode that shows how HIMYM has really re-invented the sitcom.

With the final and excellent twist being that Barney - who spends the entire episode preaching to Ted why he should not go out with his doctor - actually had no negative fallout from dating the bartender.

An excellent episode with an excellent dating moral delivered by Barney: “Don’t Poop Where You Eat.”

Jack Bauer In Jail

kiefer_sutherland.jpg Kiefer Sutherland, who was originally scheduled to start his 48 day prison sentence on December 21st, surrendered to police yesterday to begin his sentence early. He had originally requested a longer sentence so that the courts would allow him to schedule it around filming of this season of his hit show 24. However, the WGA strike has postponed filming indefinitely. After serving his sentence, Sutherland will see a 5-year probation and will be required to complete an 18-month alcohol education program.

Let’s hope the world doesn’t need saving for the next 48 days. Jack Bauer won’t available there to diffuse nuclear devices or assassinate terrorists until then.

What I’m Doing Instead of Working

I don’t always check out the official websites of my favorite shows. I know they exist, but there’s not usually any reason for me to go look at them. Unless, of course, you can rate the performances of your favorite reality TV contestants. Where have I been? How did I not know that Bravo! let you come and rate the outfits made for each episode of Project Runway? I have now rated each and every outfit, and for the most part, I agree with the voting masses. Which makes me feel good since I doubt my own personal style. (Flannel pajama pants are never “in” are they?)

kevinsoutfit.jpgMy favorite was Kevin’s outfit (pictured on the left), but it came in second with a score of 3.36 according to the voters. First place in the voting so far is Kit’s fleece blazer outfit with a score of 3.40. I really liked her design, just not as much as Kevin’s. So - do you see what did not come in first? Or second? The actual winner. I think Jack’s outfit (which I didn’t like that much) was a 3.28 which brought it to 3rd or even 4th place. I’m glad to see the general voting public was as disappointed as I was with that win.

So - have you voted? How do your favorites stack up? And more importantly…do you think Carmen’s outfit even deserved a 1.36?

My Christmas Deathwish List For “Heroes”
Category: General, TV Wishes | 4 Comments »

heroes.jpgI love the show Heroes, and I haven’t had near the issues with this season that many have. However, I have formulated a Deathwish List of sorts for the New Year. There are a few people I’d like to see Gone. Gone. And Gone. Not to be brought back with Claire’s (or Peter’s) blood. Gone. For good. And for the record, I was not impressed with the Nathan & Niki deaths from last night. I don’t want them coming back necessarily (because come on, haven’t we seen that trick enough already?) - but it sucks that out of all the characters they could have killed, they killed the two that had finally started getting interesting. They bored me to tears last year, but this year I finally felt like they could play an interesting role. And now they’re dead. (Maybe?) And there were so many better choices of people to kill.

I don’t get the whole My Damn Channel thing. I guess it’s videos on the Internet or some such thing.Oh well.

But, as you know, My Gal Audrey who supplies me with this information does me tons of favors, so I do what I can to repay her hospitality. So, help Audrey out and watch New Wainy Days on My Damn Channel–whatever it is.

Here’s my gal:

We are in episode 2 of season 2 and David is still feeling a little down about his whole love life. Well, what’s a better way to get happy than a happy ending thats what David is going to try at least.

http://www.mydamnchannel.com/channel.aspx?episode=286

See if David gets his happy ending oh, and there is a priceless moment involving a ring. I will leave it at that.

Thanks, hope you can share this with your readers!

Above: An example from My Damn Channel. I think we all want the writers’ strike to be over. Soon. Warning not only bad language but stupid language is used. I guess it beats Dancing With the Stars. Actually, no. And DWTS sucks so badly that it creates black holes in the universe.

Mediaweek: NBC Tanks Top Demos in November Sweeps
Category: General | 1 Comment »

Looks like the Peacock Network won’t be unfurling its tail feathers over the November book.

A blurb from Mediaweek:

November Sweeps Bring More Bad News for NBC
The November sweeps, once a chance for the broadcast networks to bolster ratings before heading into December repeats, have become a major disappointment, with adults 18-49 delivery down between 13-21 percent and total viewers off between 800,000 and 2.4 million a night, reports John Consoli. “The 18-49 declines are awful, but particularly for NBC, which is digging itself a particularly big hole going forward, said Lyle Schwartz, executive vp, director of broadcast research for GroupM. Through the first 19 days of sweeps, NBC averaged 8.3 million viewers per night, down from 10.7 million last November. NBC’s 18-49 rating is down to a 3.2, off 18 percent from last year.

This Thanksgiving, Don’t Be a Tool, Watch DIY’s Cool Tools!
Category: General | No Comments »

I’m not much of a tool guy.

As I tell Mrs./Dr. TVBloggin, tools just don’t fit my hand.

I also tell her that while I’m not handy I am handsome.

But I know many of you like tools even if you don’t ever do any home improvement.

Tomorrow night on the DIY Network, my buddy Orli has more about Cool Tools, a show sure to make your inner gizmo geek go nuts.

Hi Todd,

Hope you’re doing well since we last spoke. I thought you’d be interested to hear about a new program on DIY Network called “Cool Tools,” premiering tomorrow at 8 — perfect timing to veg out on the couch after Thanksgiving dinner. The show is hosted by comedian Chris Grundy, who gives viewers an inside look at the coolest - and craziest - tools on the market today. He even goes behind-the-scenes, taking viewers on fun field trips - tomorrow’s show goes to a chainsaw museum (!!!)

Cool Tools airs Thursdays at 9pm ET, but the premier this Thursday Nov. 22 is a 2-hour special that starts at 8.
Here are some embeddable sneak preview clips of the show:

If you or your readers don’t get DIY Network at home, there’s lots of online content available too, including video highlights, product specs, purchase details and — perfect for the holiday season — a Cool Tools gift guide. Check it out here: http://www.diynetwork.com/cooltools

As always, let me know if you have any questions about the show, videos or online content.
